Estimator – Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB)
Fulltime
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX OR Houston, TX

We have an immediate and exciting new job opening for an Estimator (PEMB) to join our rapidly growing client’s team and work on-site at either of their offices located in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas or Houston, Texas.  We are seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive bids for commercial and industrial PEMB projects. The ideal candidate has 3–7 years of experience in PEMB or steel estimating, proficiency with Bluebeam or PlanSwift, and strong analytical and communication skills.


In this role, you will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for PEMB projects across commercial, industrial, and flex-industrial markets. This role requires a deep understanding of PEMB systems, steel erection, and construction workflows. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able to balance multiple bids in a fast-paced environment while supporting our mission to deliver exceptional quality and value to our clients.

 

Responsibilities
  • Review drawings and prepare detailed takeoffs/estimates.
  • Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes.
  • Develop bid proposals and scope clarifications.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Review architectural, structural, and civil drawings to prepare comprehensive takeoffs and detailed cost estimates for PEMB projects.
  • Analyze project scope, drawings, and specifications to identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, drafting, and operations teams to develop project scopes and bid strategies.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for materials, steel fabrication, erection, and other project components.
  • Prepare bid proposals, pricing summaries, and scope clarifications for submission to clients and general contractors.
  • Maintain historical cost data, unit pricing, and production rates to improve estimate accuracy over time.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client calls to review project scope and site conditions.
  • Support project handoff meetings to ensure seamless transition from estimating to project management teams.
  • Track bid results, project performance, and client feedback to continuously improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness.

Qualifications
  • 3–7 years of construction estimating experience, preferably in PEMB, structural steel, or metal building systems.
  • Software: Metal Building Software (MBS), Blue Beam, Excel, AutoCAD
  • Deep understanding of PEMB systems (Butler, Nucor, Varco Pruden, Metallic, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or other takeoff/estimating software.
  • Strong ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and accountability.
  • Strong communication and teamwork across departments.
  • Strategic thinker capable of balancing speed, accuracy, and profitability.
  • Proactive problem solver with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Deep understanding of steel fabrication, erection, and general construction sequencing.

  • Bid accuracy within ±3% of actual cost.
  • Proposal turnaround time within established deadlines.
  • Win rate on competitive bids.
  • Internal and client satisfaction with estimate quality and clarity.
  • Contribution to value-engineering savings and profitability improvements.
