Job Description

We have an immediate and exciting new job opening for a Draftsman/Designer (PEMB) to join our growing client’s team and work on-site at either of their offices located in Celina, Texas or Houston, Texas.  We are looking for someone to produce accurate shop drawings, 3D models, and fabrication details for PEMB projects.  Candidates should have 3–8 years of experience in PEMB or steel design and proficiency in AutoCAD or Tekla.

In this role, you will report to the Director of Engineering/Project Management.  This role will support the design, detailing, and coordination of Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) projects. The ideal candidate will transform architectural and structural concepts into accurate 3D models, shop drawings, and fabrication details that align with manufacturer standards and our quality requirements. This position plays a key role in bridging engineering, estimating, and fabrication by ensuring all building components are correctly detailed, dimensioned, and optimized for efficient erection and production.

 

Responsibilities
  • Prepare shop, anchor bolt, and erection drawings.
  • Generate bills of materials and part details.
  • Coordinate with engineers, estimators, and project managers.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of design deliverables.
  • Prepare complete and accurate shop drawings, erection drawings, anchor bolt plans, and part details for PEMB projects.
  • Develop and update 3D building models using CAD/BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla, or similar).
  • Interpret architectural and structural plans, specifications, and bid documents to ensure compliance with design intent and building codes.
  • Coordinate with engineers, estimators, and project managers to ensure accuracy of design, fit-up, and constructability.
  • Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and part lists for procurement and fabrication.
  • Review and verify drawings for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to PEMB manufacturer standards.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication and field erection to resolve design-related questions or issues.
  • Maintain drawing logs, revisions, and record sets to ensure proper document control.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of design packages to meet project schedules.

 

Qualifications
  • Experience: 3–8 years of drafting/design experience in the steel or PEMB industry.
  • Software: Metal Building Software (MBS), Blue Beam, Excel, AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Understanding of PEMB design principles, framing systems, and component detailing.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings and translate them into accurate PEMB shop details.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication processes and field erection sequences.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction, or a related field (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Precision and attention to detail in technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across departments.
  • Ability to think critically and resolve design conflicts efficiently.
  • Organized, dependable, and proactive work ethic.
  • Collaborative mindset with focus on continuous improvement.

  • Accuracy of drawings (minimal RFI or field revisions).
  • Timeliness of submittal package delivery.
  • Compliance with manufacturer and engineering standards.
  • Collaboration effectiveness with project management and fabrication teams.
